While the physical locations at the Centre for Writing and Scholarly Communication (CWSC) are closed, our services and resources are still available online.
Writing Consultations
From May 19 to August 14, members of the UBC community will be able to access 30-minute asynchronous and/or 45-minute synchronous Writing Consultations online. This summer, we have hired a fantastic team of five doctoral Writing Consultants from across the disciplines. Book an appointment with one of them today.
Writing Community
The CWSC introduced two new Online Writing Communities to help mitigate social isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic. We invite any and all members of UBC Vancouver, from undergraduate students to faculty, to gather for a few hours each week to write alone—together. It’s our hope that an Online Writing Community will help everyone stay motivated and stay connected.
The Online Writing Communities are held from 9am-11am on Tuesdays and from 2pm-4pm on Wednesdays. They take place via Zoom and are facilitated by a CWSC employee, who will lead brief opening and closing discussions and employ the Pomodoro technique throughout. Register here.
Workshops and Retreats
This summer, our undergraduate and graduate workshops will be offered online via Zoom. They cover a variety of topics in academic and professional writing, from Citation to Professional Communication, Abstract Writing and Doctoral Tri-Council Grant Applications. Learn more here.
For graduate students only, we will also offer our annual Graduate Writing Retreat online from June 9-11. Watch our websites for updates closer to the date.
Writing Resources
Last but not least, the CWSC is working to expand its suite of online academic and professional writing resources. These include writing-focused videos, discussions of academic integrity, annotated documents such as abstracts, research statements, and research articles, as well as detailed handouts designed to support the writing of academic genres.
