When the fall semester ended in May, we were so excited about the prospects of sleeping in till noon, strolling along the sea wall under the daytime sunshine and hanging with friends till late because, hey, summah’s heeeeeeere!
But as the summer has progressed, we’ve realized that we need to fill my time with more exciting (and free) events happening around Vancouver that during the school year we normally don’t have time to attend or that plainly don’t happen. Indeed, the beauty of Vancouver is that it’s like an entirely new city every season, and summer is the best it has to offer (in our opinion, which like summer, is the best).
So below is a list of some of the interesting things… event, festivals, etc. happening around you over the remaining 2+ months:
June:
2017 TD International Jazz Festival
Attend BC’s largest music festival, attracting almost 1800 artists and over half a million jazz enthusiasts and amateurs. The festival runs from June 22-July 2, and features both paid and free events available to the public. The largest free events are as follows:
- Robson Street Stage – outside Vancouver Art Gallery, Robson/Hornby, June 24-25 until 4pm
- Georgia Street Stage – outside the Vancouver Art Gallery, Georgie/Hornby, June 24-25 until 4pm
- David Lam Park July 1st and 2nd until 9pm
Greek day on Broadway
Attend a public celebration of Greek culture (like, Greece-Greek, not frat/sorority-Greek), food, music, entertainment, and market in beautiful Kitsilano.
When: June 25, 2017 from 11am-9pm
Where: Macdonald to Blenheim Street
Zumba on the Plaza
Enjoy a free Zumba class led by Luglio from Zumba Vancouver. Bring your friends, family and colleagues to this fun calorie burning Latin inspired dance fitness class. No dance experience necessary!

Unite! A Celebration of Canadian Multiculturalism
Engage with artisans and roaming performers, participate in a variety of interactive experiences, workshops, and creation stations as you make your way to the North Point for the free concert featuring Alex Cuba and headliners Delhi 2 Dublin!

Carnaval del Sol
Have fun at the largest latin carnaval in the Pacific Northwest! Enjoy live music, dancing, art, a beer plaza, a travel plaza with cooking demos, family plaza with fashion shows, food plaza and more.

Caribbean Days Festival
Hop over to North Vancouver for a multicultural street parade, food fair, market, and live music and entertainment all weekend! In the carnival-style parade expect to hear festive Caribbean music and to see lots of people in colourful costumes dancing and having fun.

Theatre Under the Stars
Experience an outdoor musical theatre at Malkin Bowl in Stanley Park featuring the play The Drowsy Chaperone and Mary Poppins!

Honda Celebration of Light
New this year! The Celebration of Music at Second Beach in Stanley Park taking place all 3 days of the Celebration of Light. There will be areas to view the fireworks at English Bay and an array of performers along with food and drinks. Programming announcements coming soon.

KitsFest
Join the sports festival on the beach at Kitsilano featuring yoga, tennis, volleyball, water polo, basketball and other sports, as well as lots of DJ music!

Vancouver Pride
Witness Vancouver’s progressive and diversity-friendly at the Pride Parade on August 6. Last year, this spirited and outspoken celebration of love and freedom included over 650,000 participants from all walks of life, and this year is expected to be even grander!
