Unwinding Over the Winter

“Pencils down.” The invigilator’s voice resonated in the room, only to be replaced by an eerie hush of silence. That voice in the SRC gymnasium marked my final exam of 2017W Term 1. Yet somehow, I left the exam room with an uneasy feeling in my gut. Sometimes, it can be difficult to feel resolved after exam season when not all of the exams went so smoothly. That being said, one of the best ways to get over a rough exam is to take some time to explore Vancouver! Our city has lots of great activities to check out during the holiday season, and here are a few of my favorite winter activities. As an avid photographer, these places are also great for a quick photo opportunity:

Lights at LaFarge Winter Lights Display

Easily accessible by the Evergreen Line, Lafarge’s Winter Lights display is a free attraction full of thousands of lights illuminating the pathways. Dogs are welcome as well, and there will be free weekly activities from December 20 until January 14th.

Robson Square Ice Rink

Bring your own skates and check out the outdoor skating rink at Robson’s Square! The rink will remain open for free admission until February, and skate rentals are $4 each.

Burnaby Village Museum – Heritage Christmas

Take a trip back in time at the Burnaby Village Museum! Explore the vintage-themed decorations while you partake in some baking in the Farmhouse. Admission is free into the museum, and you can enjoy the carousel ride for $2.65.

Capilano Suspension Bridge

Walk into into a forest like no other at the Canyon Lights event at Capilano Suspension Bridge. Step back and take in the beauty of the holiday season as you walk 230 feet above the Capilano river. Admission is $33.95 for students (17+) with valid ID.

Vancouver Christmas Market

All of the holiday festivities left you feeling hungry? Drop by the Christmas Market near Jack Poole Plaza for an assortment of authentic German food to try. While you’re there, make sure to check out the Christmas Carousel – another perfect photo opportunity amidst the festive atmosphere. Adult admission (13+) is $10 each.

With that, our team at the Chapman Learning Commons wishes you all a safe and happy holiday season. See you in the new year!
