Not quite. You can write about current events by searching for, and making connections with, similar past events. Context is important here: look for past events with similar root causes or consequences; that occurred in similar regions and/or to similar groups of people.

Why might it be a good idea to search in more than one database?
- Duplicating your searches is always a good use of your time.
- They may contain research from useful related perspectives.
- They contain research from other researchers and journals on the same topics.
- Searching in more than one database ensures that you haven’t missed important research on your topic.
While it can be very useful to explore related databases to find content that is not in your first database, it’s not automatically a good use of your time to duplicate your searches. Choose alternate databases carefully by checking the research guide for the topic to make sure they are “key” or “core” to the discipline AND that they cover different journals, researchers and/or perspectives from your first database choice.
