Study Areas

These locations are study areas on campus with variances in ambient noise levels. Suitable for personal or quiet group studying.

Residence Commons Buildings

All UBC Residences have Common areas that offer chairs and tables for students to study.

Forestry Sciences Centre

Forestry Sciences Centre offers a quiet study space conveniently located next to Tim Hortons. Note this location is only accessible to current UBC Forestry Students.

Fred Kaiser Building

Fred Kaiser Building offers a study space in the lobby next to Starbucks; however it is not known to be a quiet study area.

Life Sciences Building

The Life Sciences Building offers a large study hall for students to quietly study at.

Group Study Areas

David Lam Library

David Lam Library has group study tables on the main floor of the library, and study rooms on the upper level.

Education Library

Group study tables are on the main floor near the entrance and on the lower floor.

Irving K. Barber Learning Centre

The Learning Centre has several rooms with tables and whiteboards for group study on levels 3 and 4 of the Music, Art and Architecture Library. Please review these guidelines for booking and using the study rooms.

Koerner Library (Level 1)

Several rooms with tables and blackboards for group study are available on level one. Book these rooms for a study session online using the Library Room Booking System.

Okanagan Library

There are eight bookable study rooms in the library: two on the first floor and six on the second. Two SmartBoards (interactive white boards) with projectors are available in two of them (LIB 223 and 225), and SmartBoard kits can be checked out at the Library Service Desk. A 10-seat video-conference rooms is also available on the first floor, and a recording studio allows students and faculty to create high-quality video and audio outputs. Woodward Library

Woodward Library has group study facilities located along the east side of the second floor of the library and in the Garden Level (basement). Book these rooms for a study session online using the Library Room Booking System.

Silent Study Areas

David Lam Library

  • The entire East perimeter on the main level

Education Library

  • On the west side of the bookstacks, on both the main and lower floor.

Irving K. Barber Learning Centre

  • Quiet study areas include the Ridington Reading Room (north end of levels 3 and 4), the Nass Reading Room (south end of level 4) and most study areas in the North Wing bookstacks.
  • The Musqueam Reading Room (room 455) is a designated silent study area.

Koerner Library

  • Silent Study area on Level 1
  • Quiet study on all floors

Okanagan Library

  • Field Reading Room on the First Floor of the Library
  • East Reading Room on the First Floor of the Library
  • LIB 111 - Learning Lab (with computers) on the First Floor of the Library
  • Study Carrels on the Second Floor of the Library

Law Library

  • Silent study throughout entire library.
