Online tutoring is a convenient way to access support when and where you need it! Tutoring sessions are available (Sept – April) in a variety of formats including:
- MSN (Instant Messaging): a popular option!
- Group Chat through MSN or Scriblink (collaborative Whiteboard)
- Wimba’s Live Classroom: for group tutorials online!
Your online tutors (from AMS) are:
- math@ams.ubc.ca
- economics@ams.ubc.ca
- chemistry@ams.ubc.ca
- physics@ams.ubc.ca
Add them to your “friends list” on your IM (MSN).
To get started, just follow the directions For Students or For Tutors and check the Tutoring Schedule for a time that’s convenient.
- English help is provided through UBC’s Writing Centre. They have some online options.
- Biology help: Talk to your TAs/Professors, or check on your course’s Vista forum. You can also visit the First Year Biology Website for some helpful resources.

Hi,
Is the online tutoring only for first year courses? I looked at the drop-in tutoring for math and it said from 100-300 level math courses, but when i looked at the online tutoring, it only said for first year?
Hi Jennifer,
Yes, the online tutoring provided by AMS is 100-level only.

I will refer everyone I know. The very best. I’d be lost without online tutoring how tos.
Thanks for your comment and glad the how-tos helped you to get started!
Hi Nicholas,
There isn’t any online tutoring for computer science offered through the AMS – try the Computer Science Learning Centre: http://www.cs.ubc.ca/ugrad/current/resources/cslearning.shtml
